Retractable screen doors from Phantom, StowAway, and Wizard, measured and installed at your home.
A retractable screen gives you a full screen door when you want fresh air, then rolls out of sight when you don’t. No screen door blocking your view or your entry the rest of the year. Golden State Screen is an authorized Phantom dealer and installs retractable systems throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.
How Retractable Screens Work
The screen mesh rolls into a slim housing mounted beside your door. Pull the handle across the opening and it latches on the other side. Release it and the screen retracts back into the housing. Every system is custom-built to your exact opening, so it runs smoothly and seals at the edges.
Which Retractable Screen Is Right for You?
We install several systems, and the right one depends on your door and how you use it:
| System | Best for | What sets it apart |
|---|---|---|
| Phantom | Entry doors, French doors, single and double doors | Optional integrated latch-and-release handle, or the classic magnetic latch. Many frame colors and woodgrain finishes. |
| StowAway | Everyday entry and patio doors | Spring-loaded cassette tucks into the door jamb, with speed-controlled retraction. Made in Anaheim Hills, California. |
| Wizard (Vista View) | Large openings | Built for wide openings, with a powder-coated alloy handle and a secure latching system. |
| Phantom XL | Oversized openings, folding glass walls, multi-slide and stacking doors | Covers openings far wider than a standard screen door. |
| Phantom motorized | Patios, loggias, covered outdoor rooms | Raises and lowers at the push of a button. |
Where Retractable Screens Work Best
- Front entry doors, where a traditional screen door would hide the door itself
- French doors, with a double screen that meets in the middle
- Sliding glass doors, as a cleaner alternative to a sliding screen door
- Bifold, multi-slide, and stacking doors, with large-opening systems
- Patios and outdoor rooms, with motorized screens
Retractable vs. Traditional Screen Doors
A retractable screen disappears when you’re not using it and keeps your entry looking clean. A traditional sliding or swinging screen door is always in place, costs less, and stands up better to heavy pet traffic. Many homes use both: a retractable screen on the front door and a sliding screen on the back patio.
Retractable Screen FAQs
Do retractable screens work on French doors?
Yes. French doors are one of the most popular places for a retractable screen. A double set meets in the middle, so you can open one or both doors.
Can I put a retractable screen on a sliding glass door?
Yes. A retractable screen is a clean alternative to a traditional sliding screen door, and it disappears when you are not using it.
How wide of an opening can you screen?
Standard retractable screens fit everyday doors. For wide openings, bifold doors, and multi-slide glass walls, large-opening systems like Phantom XL and Wizard Vista View are designed to cover much wider spans. We confirm what fits when we measure.
Are retractable screens good with dogs?
They work for many pet owners, but retractable screens use lighter mesh and are not built to take a lot of pushing or scratching. For an active dog, a sliding or swinging screen door with pet-resistant mesh is usually more durable.
Do you repair retractable screens?
Yes. We service and repair retractable screens, including broken handles, worn mesh, and screens that no longer retract smoothly.
